11th Biennial of Watchmaking Heritage

On the occasion of the 11th Biennial of Watchmaking Heritage, a celebration of Switzerland’s rich watchmaking tradition, Eberhard & Co. unveiled to visitors its latest vintage watch acquisition of the Museum, adding yet another piece to the Maison’s illustrious history. The featured timepiece is a pocket watch from 1930 with a hand-wound mechanical movement, highlighted by a uniquely soft-edged, two-tone carrè case in 18K yellow and grey gold.
The watch exudes a refined, understated elegance, with a clean-lined case framing a white dial adorned with sophisticated Arabic numerals and black “Scoties” hands. A continuous seconds counter at 6 o’clock mirrors the case’s rounded shape, surrounded by a chemin-de-fer scale that harmonizes with the peripheral minute scale. Particularly notable is the convex, custom-shaped mineral glass, perfectly contoured to follow the case’s rounded edges.
This timepiece embodies an aesthetic of subtle elegance and hails from a vibrant period for the company, founded in 1887 by Georges-Lucien Eberhard and, at the time, led by his heir, Georges-Émile. During a period when the watchmaking world was deeply affected by the Wall Street Crash and the Great Depression,
Eberhard & Co. stood out as a resilient player, offering not only pocket watches but also innovative wristwatches, upheld by an exceptional price-to-quality ratio—a hallmark of the Maison throughout its history.
